Headquartered in Wakefield, Virginia, The Virginia Food Group was established through the initial acquisition of Virginia Diner by Bill DelChiaro and Andrew Whisler in March 2019. Founded in 1929, Virginia Diner is a manufacturer of premium brand name nuts, trail mix, and confections sold direct to consumers online and through their catalogue, as well as into brick-and-mortar retail channels. Virginia Diner has distinguished itself as a truly premium brand renowned for using super extra-large Virginia Peanuts and its innovative flavoring. Additionally, the Virginia Diner, a restaurant located in a renovated railcar, serves as an iconic Virginia landmark along US Route 460. Following Bill and Andrew’s initial acquisition of Virginia Diner, The Virginia Food Group subsequently acquired Feridies in 2021, The Peanut Shoppe of Williamsburg in 2023, and Red Rocker Candy in 2024. Together, the four brands maintain a shared conviction for delivering premium, taste-forward nuts and snacks to the markets and consumers they serve.
Harvey & Company developed a strong relationship with Bill and Andrew through its extensive work in the snacking industry. The Virginia Food Group emerged as a compelling platform investment opportunity given its seasoned management team, strong brand presence, exemplary tasting products, above-market financial performance, and demonstrated ability to execute acquisitions. Harvey & Company successfully introduced The Virginia Food Group to a private investment firm, whom Harvey & Company had consummated three other platform investments alongside, that recapitalized the business with Harvey & Company participating as co-investors.
In partnership with management, the investment will enable The Virginia Food Group to continue building on over 200 combined years of legacy among the four brands, including capital to invest in marketing efforts, automation and infrastructure investments, and accretive acquisitions. Under Bill and Andrew’s continued leadership, The Virginia Food Group is poised for continued growth as it furthers its mission of delivering great tasting treats to consumers nationwide.
